Dear District 39 Community,

Here are some D39 updates:

HMS Construction

Bids are being solicited for a first phase of construction at Highcrest, which includes an addition of four classrooms and a new main office providing a secure entrance. Bids will be submitted in January and the Board will make a final decision on this project at the February meeting.

Student Fees 2018-19

The Board approved 2018-19 student fees at the December Board meeting. All fees will remain the same except for a $10 increase to the 7th grade instructional materials fee to include the cost of iPad insurance (already incorporated for grades 5-6).

Transportation 2018-19

Last fall we had some significant transportation issues. Upon closer investigation, we discovered some unanticipated outcomes resulting from the changes in school start times. Later bus runs faced more typical “rush hour traffic.” Another discovery was having 266 students register for bus transportation after the deadline. This alone lead to significant re-routing issues causing bus delays.

Therefore, we need everyone registering on time for bus transportation.  So, we have made a small, but helpful change. For 2018-19, we will be extending the registration cutoff from July 1st to July 13th, and then routes will be established. However, anyone registered after July 13th will incur a late fee and be assigned to a bus route on September 15th, providing the established route has available space. So, register early and on time!
