Early Release Day Tomorrow (Aug. 24) For Central, Harper, Romona, and Highcrest
The Excessive Heat Watch has been upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning, with peak heat indices now predicted to be in sustained excess of 100 degrees in the afternoon. In light of the extreme heat forecast for tomorrow and in alignment with our D39 Action Plan for Excessive Heat, we have decided to implement an EARLY RELEASE DAY for our non-air conditioned schools (Central, Harper, Romona and HMS) tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 24. Students in these buildings will follow the same dismissal schedule tomorrow that was in place today.
The following District 39 school buildings will follow Early Release protocol tomorrow (Aug. 24):
- Central (11:55 am dismissal)
- Harper (11:55 am dismissal)
- Romona (11:55 am dismissal)
- Highcrest (11:46 am dismissal)
McKenzie and Wilmette Junior High will proceed with typical school hours and full-day attendance, as students and staff in those buildings have access to cool learning spaces. The Lechner Early Education Program (LEEP) will follow their typical schedule.
District bus service will operate for those registered for this service. Anyone enrolled in Wilmette Park District programming for tomorrow afternoon will receive separate communication from the Park District directly.
Although we always hope to avoid the cancelation of classes, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. This decision was made with that in mind.
Friday’s forecast calls for markedly cooler temperatures and we are planning to resume our typical schedule. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
